Session 5: Helping Your Unique Child Find Motivation through their Bigger Purpose

George McCloskey, PhD

Have you ever wondered what the overlap is between executive functions, self-regulation, and self-determination? Let George McCloskey guide you through a process of supporting your child that is centered on them, helps strengthen and clarify their motivations, and helps them see a bigger connection to purpose and the world. Learn what the secret ingredient is to help your child's brain wake up and start setting their own goals. After this talk you will have some new tools for shaping the behavior you want to see and how to walk them through the steps to eventually do it on their own.

    Hi, George,

As an educator and fellow presenter, I really enjoyed your talk. Your comment that “There are teachers who can make the whole class ADHD” was very funny, even though it was unfortunately true. I also really appreciated your thoughts on how to build motivation through the lens of self-determination and with both MI techniques and framing the goal of removing scaffolding. Thanks!!

Good to know how to reach our children and get them to match their self determination and self regulation to be able to reach their goals.

Such a fascinating talk. It is definitely powerful to step into our children’s world, connect with them, and then help them bridge their strengths and skills to the outside world!

I found all the talks very interesting and got some really useful methods out of each of them.

Agreed Nicole! Making sure the process is centered on the child, use their strengths, clarify their motivations, and help them see the bigger connection to the world are helpful strategies.
